International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been observed around the world since 1992 at the initiative of the United Nations. Disability Day is celebrated every year focusing on different issues with the objective of enhancing the understanding of the general public and concerned stakeholders about the issues related to disability and promoting the appropriate support system.
December 3rd marks the annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), which brings attention to the inequalities and barriers faced by persons with disabilities. The international theme of this year is – Leadership and participation of Persons with Disabilities towards an inclusive, accessible, and sustainable post COVID world. The national theme announced by National Federation of Disabled-Nepal (NFDN) is- “हाम्रो प्राथमिकताको आधार : अपाङ्गता भएका व्यक्तिहरूको अधिकार”
KOSHISH has planned to organize different awareness and sensitization events in its working area.
- On 3rd December, a disability day celebration event among Members of Parliament, Government representatives, OPD members, I/NGOs, and relevant stakeholders will be organized where documentaries developed by KOSHISH will be showcased.
- The findings of a joint study conducted by KOSHISH and NFDN on “The Disability Rights Act 2017: Challenges and Way Forward” will be shared in the event.
- Video messages from the leadership of Psychosocial Disability will be shared on KOSHISH’s Social Media.
