On the 16th and 17th of February 2022, the International Disability Alliance (IDA), the Government of Norway, and the Government of Ghana organized the second Global Disability Summit (GDS22).
The Summit was organized with the goal to mobilize efforts to implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the principle of “Leave No One Behind” (LNOB), and to rebuild better and more inclusive policies in the context of Covid-19.
KOSHISH was one of the participants in the Summit, participating in two events on 17th February.
17th February (14:00 CET):
Femi Oke interviewed Matrika Prasad Devkota (founder and executive director of KOSHISH) and Kamala Poudel (Program Officer at KOSHISH) as part of the Global Disability Summit 2022’s Inclusive Health Program.
In the interview, Matrika Prasad Devkota and Kamala Poudel discussed KOSHISH in depth, including what the organization does, why it was founded, and what is required in the mental health field, in addition to sharing their own stories.
17th February (12.00 PM – 12.45 PM CET):
As part of the GDS 2022 side event, Matrika Prasad Devkota (founder and executive director of KOSHISH), Senior advocate Dr. Chandrakanta Gyawali, and Kamala Poudel (Program Officer at KOSHISH) gave a presentation on “Highlighting the Legal Barriers Facing Persons with Psychosocial Disability in Nepal.” Legal barriers that persons with psychosocial disabilities face in Nepal were discussed during the presentation. Wrapping up the event, Matrika Prasad Devkota responded to questions from the audience about the legal barriers that people with psychosocial disabilities face in Nepal.
