Posted on: 6 Jun, 2013

By realizing the necessity of updating and proper implementation of the policy, KOSHISH organized a day workshop on “National Mental Health Policy: Status of Implementation, Challenges and Opportunities” with collaborative support from National Human Rights Commission on 6th June, 2013 at Hotel Himalaya, Lalitpur. The Program was supported by Himal Partner and KOSHISH Norway. KOSHISH felt the need to have inclusive discussion from holistic perspectives for reviewing, updating, upgrading and implementing the policy. For this, KOSHISH appointed experts, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, human rights lawyers and right holders for depth assessment of the policy.

The objectives of the workshop were:

  • To find out the existing implementation status regarding the National Mental Health Policy, 1997.
  • To recommend the government authorities after reviewing and upgrading  the mental health policy, 1997 in accordance with the clinical,  psychological, human rights and right holders perspectives for  prevention, promotion and protection of mental health  by upgrading the  policy and its effective implementation.
